A Lakota Equus caballus mask has gone dorsum on display at Wyoming State Museum next recent conservation in addition to stabilization work.

Fewer than fifty historical masks are known to exist,  and the Wyoming State Museum’s Lakota mask is unique due to its large size. It is fully beaded.

Loose beadwork, lining in addition to other elements were repaired inwards the mask.

The function was made possible past times a grant from the Greenwood Fund, business office of the Denver Foundation.

“The mask is notable for its size in addition to fully beaded patriotic design,” curator Mandy Langfald said.

The mask was donated to the museum inwards 1958. It is made from buffalo hide, weighs 10.5 pounds in addition to is believed to convey been made near the plough of the 20th century.
