Alan Brennan, 49, from Leigh, was jailed for 12 weeks together with banned from keeping animals for life when he appeared for judgement on Th inwards Wigan Magistrates Court. He had before admitted 5 charges nether the Animal Welfare Act.

Brennan admitted:

• Causing unnecessary suffering to a grayness Arab type colt called Gandor, a bay Arab type stallion called Solo, a bay Arab type stallion called Palace together with a grayness Arab type stallion called Orion past times failing to address the causes of their piteous trunk status together with weight loss.
• Causing unnecessary suffering to the iv horses past times failing to furnish proper together with necessary hoof assist together with maintenance.

• Failing to come across the needs of the iv horses together with a further, 5th horse, a Palomino Welsh cob type called Martie, past times failing to come across their demand for a suitable diet.

The RSPCA visited on June 12 later a telephone band most a collapsed foal inwards a stable.

RSPCA inspector Melissa Furey said: “When I looked over the door of the ramshackle stable, Gandor was standing exactly was underweight, weak together with covered inwards faeces.

“Whilst waiting for a vet to brand it I examined the other horses.

“The surroundings was squalid, filthy, smelly, also modest together with completely inappropriate. There was no hay, H2O or fresh bedding provided. Some of the horses were underweight amongst overgrown hooves together with unopen to of the stable doors had genuinely been nailed shut. I was totally disgusted amongst what I saw.”

A farther 17 horses, which were all inwards a normal trunk condition, were grazing inwards a plain outside.

All 22 horses were signed over to the RSPCA.

Orion was euthanised on veterinarian advice equally he was suffering from chronic laminitis, exactly the others were rehomed.

“These horses were completely reliant on Mr Brennan together with he failed them badly,” Furey said. “They were trapped inwards these stables, inwards 3 feet of faeces amongst no nutrient or H2O together with no agency out.”

Brennan has lodged an appeal against the sentence.
