Lifetime award for British eventing coach

British eventing jitney Gill Watson has been presented with a Lifetime British Eventing Award as well as Honorary Life membership.

Watson, MBE FBHS, was presented alongside the respect past times BE President Jane Holderness-Roddam at the recent Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

Watson spent her formative years alongside Pat Smallwood at Radnage House as well as won Burghley Horse Trials on her ain Equus caballus Shaitan inwards 1969, as well as was appointed past times the Horse Trials Group (predecessors to BE) every bit squad trainer to the Juniors inwards 1980 as well as to the Young Riders inwards 1981.

Following this, she became Chef d’Equipe to the British Junior Squad from 1984 to 2002.  Under her supervision, preparation as well as management, a sum of 96 FEI Championship medals were won.  Her close recent success was at Blair Castle for the 2011 FEI Young Rider European Championships where the British squad won Team Gold as well as private Silver (Gill is pictured below alongside final year’s squad).

Her graduates include William Fox Pitt, Tina Cook, Pippa Funnell, Kitty King as well as Sarah Cohen.  Watson too ‘trained the trainers’, alongside onetime working pupil’s Emma Fisher right away coaching the Young Rider Team as well as Jonquil Hemming coaching the Pony Team.

A Fellow of the BHS, Watson has established her ain preparation facility, The Gill Watson Centre, as well as she continues to educate riders of all ages as well as abilities including riders upwards to CCI4* star level.
