FEI VP appointed to Olympic Committee
Japanese Olympic Committee President together with FEI Honorary Vice President Tsunekazu Takeda has been elected to the International Olympic Committee.
Takeda was appointed at the 124th IOC Session held inward London earlier the Olympic Games.
Takeda, who served equally an FEI Bureau fellow member from 1992 to 2002, competed inward the 1972 together with 1976 Olympic Jumping events. Following his retirement from competition, he continued to pursue his passion for sport equally a jitney together with administrator, leading the Japanese equestrian teams at the Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988 together with Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. He served equally a sports directors to the Organising Committee for the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games together with was elected equally President of the Japanese Olympic Committee inward 2001. He was chef de mission for the Japanese delegations at the Salt Lake City 2002 together with Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Tsunekazu Takeda is the 13th IOC fellow member from Japan. Mr Takeda’s father, Prince Tsuneyoshi Takeda, who competed inward the Olympic equestrian events inward Berlin 1936, was an IOC fellow member from 1967 to 1981 together with served on the organisation’s executive board for 5 years.
Japan, which inward 1921 was 1 of the founding members of the FEI, is represented inward the iii equestrian disciplines at the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside a five-member squad inward eventing together with private riders inward jumping together with dressage.
Other IOC members connected to equestrian sport include the Princess Royal (GBR), FEI President from 1986 to 1994, Gerardo Werthein (ARG), old FEI Bureau member, together with FEI President Princess Haya. The Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbón (ESP), FEI President from 1994 to 2006, is an Honorary IOC member.
