Scottish SPCA disappointed by lack of ban
The Scottish SPCA is disappointed a teenager who admitted neglecting her Equus caballus was non given a ban on keeping animals.
Hollie Dignon, 18, of Meadow Place, Bilston, pleaded guilty to failing to furnish necessary veterinarian attending together with adequate nutrition for her 14-year-old horse, Barney, a thoroughbred type.
Dignon was admonished when she appeared inwards Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Inspector Tracy McNaughton said afterwards: “This was a severe representative of neglect inwards which Barney had been allowed to larn extremely emaciated. When nosotros offered him food, he ate ravenously.
“Following our investigation Dignon has been convicted of causing an beast unnecessary suffering together with straight off has a criminal record.
“We had recommended that a ban on keeping animals would survive appropriate inwards this case, which is an option opened upward to the courts nether the Animal Health together with Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
“It is real disappointing that no ban has been given as, inwards our opinion, Dignon has demonstrated she is unfit to ensure the welfare of whatever beast together with nosotros would convey serious concerns for whatever animals inwards her tending inwards the future.
“Thankfully, Barney was rehabilitated at our Edinburgh together with Lothians Animal Rescue together with Rehoming Centre together with has since been rehomed to a loving novel owner.”
